Deep Cleaning
A routine cleaning works on healthy gums. If buildup has moved below the gumline, a regular visit can’t reach it, and we’ll recommend a deep cleaning instead.
A teeth cleaning in Whittier, CA, at Atlantic Dental & Orthodontics pairs a routine exam with scaling and polishing to clear away plaque, tartar and surface stains. Our hygiene team includes Lourdes Rodriguez, RDH, who has more than 25 years in the dental field and speaks Spanish.

A routine teeth cleaning at our Whittier office is two things in one appointment: a cleaning with scaling and polishing, and an exam by one of our dentists. That way, the person who removes the buildup and the person who checks for problems are looking at the same mouth on the same day.
We see adults and children, and our hygiene team includes a registered dental hygienist with more than 25 years in the dental field. If your exam finds something, fillings, crowns and root canal treatment happen in this same office, with a plan built around what you need.

Meet Our Dentists
Our hygiene patients often mention Lourdes by name, and what they describe is the patience we want every cleaning to have.
“Lourdes is the best dental hygienist I have ever had. She always makes me feel confident and provides the best options for maintaining my dental health. Update: After seven years with Lourdes, my gum health has improved significantly.”
Had my first deep cleaning with Lurdes and was very happy she is very patient and attentive excellent experience.
Lourdes is a great hygienist! Always a pleasure to come get my check-up and cleaning. 5-stars!
Excellent staff. I loved my experience here. Lourdes was as the best! I would recommend this spot.
Most of the cleaning patients we see live or work in Whittier and have dental coverage through a job. Their first concern is time: a cleaning that fits before work, on a lunch break or after school, without a second trip for the exam. Parents often book their kids right after their own visit so the family is done in one afternoon.
Others come back after a few years away and expect a lecture. They get a thorough cleaning, a look at what changed and a simple plan for staying on schedule, explained in English or Spanish.
As your Whittier family dentist, we keep your cleanings, exams and any follow-up care under one roof on Greenleaf Avenue.
Most cleanings end with a clean bill of health. When they don’t, these are the services we most often talk through next.

Clean teeth make small cavities easier to spot. When your exam turns one up, we show you where it is and plan the filling.
If we see gum disease, we explain the stage it’s at and set a care plan and visit schedule around it.
We treat patients of all ages, and children need regular cleanings too. If your child is due for a first visit or a checkup, our care for kids is the place to start.
Polishing takes off surface stains, but it won’t change the natural shade of your teeth. For a brighter shade, ask about whitening.
Routine visits are about prevention. These are the everyday problems scaling, polishing and a careful exam keep in check.
Tartar is plaque that has hardened onto the teeth. No toothbrush will move it, but scaling at your cleaning lifts it off.
Coffee, tea and everyday foods leave stains on the outer surface of your teeth. Polishing smooths that surface and takes much of the staining with it.
Plaque along the gumline irritates the gums long before most people notice. Removing it regularly, and checking your gums each visit, helps keep a small problem small.
Many cavities give no warning. Your routine exam is where we find them, while the fix is usually simpler.
Crowded teeth, braces and bridges leave places a toothbrush misses. Your hygienist cleans around them and shows you how to reach them at home.
It’s hard to care about tartar you can’t see. Our intraoral cameras take close-up pictures inside your mouth and put them on a screen next to your chair, so you can see the buildup, the worn spot or the area your brush keeps missing.
When your exam calls for X-rays, our dentists review them with you, so you understand what we found and why we recommend any next step.

We accept all PPO dental plans, including Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna and Guardian. Our team verifies your benefits before you come in and tells you upfront what your plan will pay, then submits the claim for you after your visit.
If anything is left after insurance, CareCredit, Cherry and monthly payment plans can spread it out.
